Salvador da Bahia is a vibrant, colourful city in Northeast Brazil full of music and dance, undoubtedly the Capital of Afro-Brazilian Culture.
Founded in 1549, it was a former capital of Brazil , and to this day retains a unique cultural and racial blend. The state of Bahia offers numerous beautiful beaches stretching across All Saints Bay, as well as the Atlantic Rain forest, rivers and mountain, where you can do eco-turism, trekking and other excursions, or just lay at the sun and play beach soccer.
The annual Carnival is renowned for its all night street parties and parades, considered by the Guiness Book to be the biggest festival of the world. There is also a gay parade in September, month of the flowers, with famous artists and big concerts.
In every part of the city you will be surrounded by Bahian cultural heritage, a mixture of Portuguese and African influences. Salvador 's historic district, Pelourinho, offers a non-stop exotic blend of typical music (axé, percussion, samba, reggae and bossa nova), dress, afro-brazilian dance and food.
